BIRDS OF PARADISE
RAJA AMPAT, WEST PAPUA
During our 3 month stay in Raja Ampat, we booked onto a Bird of Paradise tour in Central Raja Ampat.
The tour guides name was Benny from the village of Tapokreng on the main island of Waigeo.
We left his house at 2:30am to trek 1.5 hours into the mountain first to see the Red Bird of Paradise just before sunrise.
We then hiked another 45 minutes further into the mountains to a secret hide to see the Wilson's Bird of Paradise.
We did see both but photography was a challenge with the fast moving birds and low levels of light.
We arrived home at 2pm totally exhausted but very happy.
